Support for quality journalism in Bulgaria

The launch of EURACTIV Bulgaria in Sofia on 20 September 2019. From L to R: Valia Ahchieva, Georgi Gotev, Krassen Nikolov. Colleagues from attending: Zoran Radosavljevic, Alexandra Brzozowski, Jorge Valero, Beatriz Rios, Jorge Valero.

This website was set up on 20 September 2019 by Georgi Gotev with the aim of bringing the high standards of EURACTIV to Bulgaria. At the launch event journalist Svetoslav Terziev from the daily SEGA, EURACTIV Bulgaria’s media partner, said EURACTIV’s presence in Bulgaria was “great moral support, given the disastrous situation in Bulgaria in terms of freedom of expression”.

Today (6 April) EURACTIV Bulgaria is a well-established media, with more than 777 articles published, including great journalistic investigations, one of which has led to the arrest of a government minister.

More than 50 articles of EURACTIV Bulgaria have been published in English by and by other EURACTIV partners. The editorial team consists of Chief Editor Krassen Nikolov, investigative journalist Valia Ahchieva, EU affairs correspondent Antoinette Nikolova and junior journalist and translator Kalina Angelova.

The business model of EURACTIV Bulgaria was largely based on holding conferences and public events on EU-related issues. Series of such conferences were planned, but only one was held on 6 March.

In the light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the financial impact on our media startup has been devastating. This is why we are calling for your donations in these difficult times. Please support quality journalism in Bulgaria!
